My summers have always been about learning how to let go.
Every summer before this was about moving on
Forgiving, bearing, and somehow arriving at the same place again.
This summer though, is a different kind of letting go.

This summer, I wish nothing changes.
I admit, that is something foolish to wish for
But complacency is an easy thing.
And complacency gets you nowhere.

So this summer, I have to let go.
Not of the things that make me unhappy
But of the memories that make me smile.
I have to let go not because someone tells me to move on
But because I know this is finally the time to.

A friend's mom once told me
What's yours will return to you
What's not yours will never be.
To believe this is a leap of faith
Because to believe this
Is to know that the Lord provides
And the Lord oversees,
He holds pieces of my life
And will put them piece by piece together
In his perfect timing.

"Be happy, young man, while you are young,
And let your heart give you joy in the days of your youth.
Follow the ways of your heart
And whatever your eyes see,

But know that for all these things
God will bring you to judgment.
So then, banish anxiety from your heart
And cast off the troubles of your body,
For youth and vigor are meaningless.

Remember your Creator
In the days of your youth."

Ecclesiastes 11-12
Commitments are hard to make.
They require total trust and complete devotion.
You need to know that the person you are committing to
Is reliable, trustworthy and faithful.

I've come to a conclusion
That every other promises we make
Center on one commitment.
Or should.

Because it is from this commitment
That we learn to be wholly devoted to Someone
Through thick and thin.
From this commitment
We learn that there is no bailing out.
There is no being selfish.
When you completely give yourself
To love, to serve and to follow.

There is no backing out
When this is a lifetime commitment.
